Red Cross Opens Shelters In The Lowcountry

The American Red Cross has opened storm shelters across the Lowcountry. People are urged to bring important medications, pillows, additional blankets, hygiene items and other items for children or anyone with special needs.

Shelters are now open at the following locations:

– 3765 Leeds Avenue – North Charleston – This is a pet friendly shelter. Please remember to bring items for your pets.

– First Baptist Church of Barnwell – 161 Allen Street, Barnwell

– Williamsburg Recovery Center – 2084 Thurgood Marshall Hwy, Kingstree

– Orangeburg City Gym – 1420 Broughton St, Orangeburg

To find an open shelter, people can download the free Red Cross Emergency App. It is available in app stores by searching for American Red Cross or by going to redcross.org/apps.

Charleston County residents in need of transportation to the Leeds Ave. shelter can go to designated CARTA bus stops.
