After devoting much energy to building walls of sound, Ride eased up on the guitar pedals on their third album, Carnival of Light. This set highlights the ‘60s and ‘70s influences previously obscured by their shoegaze swirl. Ride kept pace with their Britpop peers with beguiling excursions into Byrds-style jangle (“From Time to Time”) and florid psychedelic rock (“Birdman”), striking an especially canny balance between past and present with a ferocious take on The Creation’s “How Does It Feel to Feel.”
