Thursday, April 25th: Film screening with local producer, Sean Bogle
Charleston
Come watch the dynamic documentary about the critically endangered vaquita porpoise. The 30-minute documentary will take us through why they are so endangered and what the Mexican government and scientists are doing to try and save them. After the film, we’ll have a Q&A with the producer of the film, Sean Bogle, and hear about the next steps in the race to save this species.
Sean made his directorial debut with the short film Souls of the Vermilion Sea about the plight of the vaquita. He is a co-director and associate producer of Sea of Shadows, which recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Sean has worked with a wide variety of wildlife species as both a filmmaker and a biologist, most notably the Hawaiian Monk Seal, Stellar sea lions, Northern elephant seals, Northern fur seals, Pacific fishers, black bears, and the elusive Ivory-billed woodpecker.
Sean is a founding member of the Wild Lens Collective, a nonprofit artist collective, where he has produced numerous short conservation films and manages outreach and impact campaigns for a variety of clients.

Dolphin Count
Dolphin Count is a citizen scientist event where the general public can help marine mammal scientists collect real data on local dolphins. Utilizing citizens to collect data allows us to increase our coverage area where we might otherwise never go. This is a free, family friendly, no experience needed event to help count dolphins and raise awareness about Charleston’s #Local dolphins.
There will be 12 designated stations around the lowcountry where you will sign up to join trained volunteers and researchers. They will instruct you on how to count, provide datasheets and answer all your dolphin questions. In addition, you’ll be able to count from any location across the lowcountry using a specially designed APP. This app will allow you to count from anywhere using your phone. The more spread out we are, the more data, the more accurate the count. Consider hosting a count at your home or boat landing.
What: a Dolphin Count
Who: everyone– young, old, experienced or not
Where: 12 stations to join OR anywhere using an app on your phone
How much: FREE
When: April 27th, 9, 10 or 11am (3 separate counts)

Dolphin Count will bring together marine mammal experts, enthusiastic volunteers and interested community members to:
